Dear Hannah sampler blocks was produced by Brenda Papadakis following the success of the Dear Jane blocks. There are 144 blocks but I managed to do only the pieced ones, not the appliqué ones which I shall place in my wish list. There are also 48 border triangles and four corner kites which is such a big challenge I don’t think it will ever get on my list. The quit is a mix of Dear Hannah and some sample blocks or UFO’s I keep as “filler” blocks.

Seattle: The Friday Harbor Quilt
Our Seattle friends have a lovely vacation home located in Friday Harbor. It is reachable from Seattle via an hour Washington Ferry ride from Anacortes. It is part of the San Juan Islands group, where mountain and water are so scenic, even the Anacortes car park is already a recreational area in my estimation! It is truly one of the most attractive nature scenery.
The quilt was made as an expression of our thanks for letting us visit their Friday Harbor home, which we have done for a number of summers now.
It is strip-pieced and predominantly red and blue prints and solids. The border is a Japanese-inspired floral print in blue and red. Measures about 85 x 90 inches.

Seattle: Log cabin boogie
Being a latter-day recyclist, I used a very old, very brittle-paper Bangkok yellow pages telephone book for paper piecing. It was ideal since it was brittle and easy to detach for stitching, after all the blocks were completed and ready to be made into the top. The colors were random, except for the centers which were half triangle squares in pink and red hues with an errant blue here and there.
As with other large pieces, it was divided into four for ease of quilting in the ditch, then joined together as in "quilt as you go". My Singer's throat space is not large (not deep) enough for full quilt sewing.
Each block measures 8 inches, the full quilt is about 85 x 93 inches. The blocks were made as and when the mood struck me. The quilt was completed in 2007.
