Being a latter-day recyclist, I used a very old, very brittle-paper Bangkok yellow pages telephone book for paper piecing. It was ideal since it was brittle and easy to detach for stitching, after all the blocks were completed and ready to be made into the top. The colors were random, except for the centers which were half triangle squares in pink and red hues with an errant blue here and there.
As with other large pieces, it was divided into four for ease of quilting in the ditch, then joined together as in "quilt as you go". My Singer's throat space is not large (not deep) enough for full quilt sewing.
Each block measures 8 inches, the full quilt is about 85 x 93 inches. The blocks were made as and when the mood struck me. The quilt was completed in 2007.
